Hi Kelly. We do not take reservations, but the wait should not be too long especially if you come early or late in the weekend (we open at 9 am and the kitchen closes at 2.30 pm), or during the weekdays (open 7.30 am, kitchen closes 2.30 pm).
I love their brunch boards! It's like a little tasting menu. The wait may not be long in line to order food but it is quite long to get the food served. So don't come here too hungry or try one of their pastries while waiting.
Ordered the brunch board with 5 items ($15) and a fried pickled herring open sandwich. Standouts: the sandwich is a must! Not too fishy especially with this caramelized onion glazed on top. The sprouted porridge with huckleberry and cream and yogurt with strawberry and rye bits were very tasty.
Easily my favorite pastry in San Francisco (Love the Terbirkes and the Cardamom Morning Bun) I’ve had a chance to eat at the restaurant as well as their catering and couldn’t recommend them more. I recently tried their brunch for the first time and what I like most about it is that you are able to try lots of different things— all that taste amazing!
For a delicious, authentic experience: order a breakfast board, coffee, and semla for dessert. Go with at least one friend or colleague and catch up. Now you’re living the #fika life!
A nice place with good food and a nice atmosphere. And a really good drip coffee! A fancy place and a good place for brunch.Would gladly visit again! It is a taste of Scandinavia
It's quite expensive! The brunch board items are all very small or just not of much substance (and the good items like the trout cost extra). It is a cute spot though, nice and sunny.
Kantine was a bright, clean and a nice spot for coffee and pastries. They do not offer vegetarian sandwiches so that was a bummer. Latte was great but hot chocolate was a disaster. Too sweet and milky. probably not worth the hype
The best coffee around (it's this amazing light roast espresso), as well as delicious pastries and creative dishes. Great ambience as well
I loved my meal here! Create your own board, I had plenty from five items. The soft egg with spinach was the standout! The meatballs and trout were great too. The celery with blue cheese was tasty, albeit not super unique. The herring was unqiue though not as tasty as my other dishes. All in all, really enjoyed it and I'll definitely be back.
Our Sunday brunch here was over an hour of waiting time wasted on mediocre food. I love Danish smorgasbord sandwiches and was very much looking forward to my gravelox sandwich. As you can see from the picture it was a mess. A bread slice that was far too thick with a crust that was near impossible to cut, topped with too much bland lox, that looked like a 5 year old had cut it with a dull plastic knife. I am sure there are real Danes rolling over in their graves. My wife's food was better, though by no means great. Unfortunately 30 minutes after she ordered it, she was told that one of her choices was sold out. Which is a long wait to be disappointed. But overall the wait was the worst. 20 minutes to order, 30 minutes to hear that part of our order was sold out and then another 10+ minutes for the food to finally arrived. On a positive note, the pastries we picked up to go, turned out to be very good. Probably should have gone with those initially.
If you’ve ever eaten Nordic food in the Nordics, then you’ll recognize the absolute fabulousness of this cafe. Only open for breakfast, and lunch until about 15.00. Well worth the visit. It is gourmet craftsmanship at the highest level. If you’re actually Nordic living in San Francisco this place will either make you homesick, or will become a regular eatery.
Cool spot with a small, rotating menu and great coffee. We got a brunch board and the avocado toast with trout, and two iced lattes. Every single item was fresh and tasty, and the dill herring was spectacular. I didn't bike here this time, but I definitely will in the future as there are big, bright windows facing bike racks on Market.
Being a Scandinavian, this is a breakfast/brunch gem in SF since it allows you to eat healthy. I recommend picking the breakfast board where you can choose 5-7 small plates. Sometimes they have Scandinavian sweets, like cinnamon/cardamom buns that taste like home.
It's really fun to see this unique Scandinavian concept come to San Francisco! The brunch board is really a standout in that you can taste a wide variety of flavors each time you visit. Love that it's healthy and fresh.
I LOVE this place. The coffee, pastries and the sampler style breakfast reminds me of traveling in Europe. It's a must go to spot in SF. Plus they are open for take out during quarantine
Casual chic breakfast/lunch/brunch spot. A great atmosphere to enjoy if you can come when it's not busy! Food was delicious - I particularly enjoyed the eggs in creamed spinach
Highly recommend this place. Very satisfied with the quality of food, variety/ flexibility of combination, ambience, service, and location!
Have you heard the term "Hygge"? It's a Danish/Norweigan word for "a mood of coziness and comfortable conviviality with feelings of wellness and contentment." Kantine is all of that. Pieces of joyful flavours, comfort and wellbeing in your mouth/heart. Everything on their brunch menu just feels and taste right and the scandinavian design decor matches perfectly the Hygge style.
